I have had this discussion with a lot of people recently and i've got something to say on the matter. I feel like a blog entry cant really be my final answer but rather a concise explanation of what I think about the whole thing. Number one this is not an attack or a scientific account. This is simply my opinion. So on with it. I definately believe that homosexuality is a choice. Key word 'believe'. Since I am not gay I cant validate that it has its roots in genetics. All i know is that the people i have talked to have openly admitted that they chose their lifestyle. So until they start genetically altering embryos to be gay and it works i will refuse to believe in a purely genetic explaination. I have heard the argument that there are gay animals... My response is that ive seen dogs hump people, cats, and stuffed animals. So does that mean that those dogs are genetically predetermined to be attracted to those different species and even inanimate objects? No, they simply have the drive and/or have made a mistake.(p.7 L.James) I dont really care much about the political side of this because it seems like a hypocritical voice keeping gay marraige illegal, plus I just dont want to get into the whole seperaration of church and state argument. however, as a christian i dont agree with homosexuality, but that also means I dont want to pass judgement or codemn others for their sins when Ive got plenty of my own. So if your gay just dont tell me its genetic. Please excuse any typos, Im typing on my phone.

Payday loans!!! WHOO!!! Yeah... Anyway, you probably shouldn't cite me, it makes me feel like an actual scientist and I might start proclaiming random things to be true. Considering that romanticism and love are emotions and are only experienced by humans, it is absurd to deem a dog or a frog to be homosexual. However, I also think it's absurd to attribute homosexuality to just being a choice. I love the ladies, but while I choose to continue loving the ladies, there was some predetermination of my sexual preferences. The fact that choosing to love the alternative of ladies repulses me, supports that. Whether it was determined by my genes, the way I was raised, or, what the hell, even if I picked it, my sexuality is noone's business but my own (and, I suppose, my partner). And that's my take on the subject.
There are some bird species that mate for life or for years. Almost every one of them has homosexual couples. We have three gay/lesbian flamingo couples at the zoo right now...
Well, everyone knows flamingos are gay... ;] The question really isn't about whether or not animals of the same sex are capable of intercourse, the question is "do these animals feel romantically attracted to each other?" Put simply, the answer is "no." The need for social interaction may be the cause for the pairing, but to say the animals are in love is an inappropriate personification. So far, most of the evidence I have seen of homosexuality in animals comes from media reports (already I'm cautious) from zoos, farms, and aquariums. The problem with submitting these statistics as factual data are that these animals are not in an environment that is considered "natural" for whatever species it is. If I were raised from birth in a cage with just one other person of the same sex as me, my ideas of sexuality might be skewed also. But I also have emotions that must be factored into the situation.
I'm going to stop myself short now! This is almost a blog entry on its own...
